I own, breed, and show pure bred Mastiffs in Florida. Now I want to work with Reptiles. I’m already talking to knowledgeable people about this, but now I want your opinion. I want to breed Reptiles. I do have experience with Large and small Snakes. And small Lizards. I want something very fascinating. I want some kind of Lizard or Snake. Right now I have a 40 gallon breeder tank, two 20 gallon long tanks, and three 10 gallon tanks. Money is not an issue, so recommend anything else I need. Also recommend what sizes of Tanks I should acquire for breeding my Reptiles. Recommend something that, In your opinion, Is fascinating, and not to out of question. Nothing venomous. Something reasonable. I live in Florida.

P.S. I would prefer a good sized Monitor or something like that as far as Lizards go. If It’s a snake you recommend, something under 20 feet, please. Probably smaller then even 14 feet. Let me know what you recommend and don’t jump down my throat about me not knowing about the Reptile. Before I breed I will do as much research on everything needed as possible. Besides, this is part of research.

I’m talking to knowledgeable people on Reptiles in specific, too.

My father owns a Columbian Red Tailed Boa constrictor thats about 11 feet, and a Burmese Python that’s about 17 feet.

Thanks, I appreciate It!

We’ve put together some basic guidelines so that you can help them make a suitable home for their new, reptile pet.

What Does a Reptile Need in a Terrarium?

Somewhere for the reptile to bask

A reptile terrarium should have places for your reptile to bask, places to hide and somewhere for it to climb and view the world. Reptiles are cold blooded and need to bask under a light for part of the day in order to absorb enough energy to move around and to digest their food. Reptile lamps are available and should placed in the terrarium in a suitable place where your pet can sit and bask. As it will be spending a lot of time basking, place the lamp where your pet will be in view.

Somewhere for the reptile to hide

You should also provide somewhere for your pet to hide occasionally such as an artificial cave or half a plant pot. Pieces of wood, vines etc can also be used to add interest and give your reptile somewhere to explore. Also place branches or vines for it to climb around and perch high up.

How should you set up a reptile terrarium?

The size of your reptile terrarium will depend on the type of reptile you intend to house and how big it will grow. Make sure you don’t buy one too small that will need replacing as your pet grows. Better to invest in a suitable, large terrarium at the beginning.

Once you have your terrarium the first thing to do is add bedding. Bedding may be reptile bark, sand or other materials and you should check which type is most suitable for your pet. Make sure you have a good supply so that it can be replaced easily when you clean the tank. On top of the bedding you can use bark, leaves or moss for more interest and added decoration. You can use found materials as long as you clean them properly before use.

We prefer natural decorations, such as rocks, vines, pieces of bark and branches for a natural looking terrarium that mimics the reptiles home environment. Place carefully and anchor any bramches well so that they are safe for your pet to climb and sit on.

Basking lamps can be added next in a suitable place with a clear area underneath for your reptile to lay. Make sure you find out which are the most suitable for your particular reptile and how long it should be left in each day. Check any natural decorations occasionally and remove any that are rotting. Add a shallow container for water for your pet and your terrarium is ready for it’s new inhabitant.

How should you maintain your reptile terrarium?

Always keep your terrarium clean and remove food that is left over before it starts to rot. Change the water daily and clean out the bedding regularly.

Conclusion

Keeping reptiles is fun and not difficult if you carefully research the needs of your pet and choose a suitably sized terrarium for its home.

With the exception of Antarctica, snakes are everywhere on the globe in warm and temperate geographical areas. The diversity of the 2,700 snakes species is relevant in the size differences too: there are some only a few centimeters long while others reach the impressive length of nine meters like the anacondas or the pythons. Poisonous snakes are far less numerous in this huge reptile family, but venom they inject in prey is so powerful that it could kill a human being within a few minutes. According to studies, the history and origins of snakes are lost in the Cretaceous period, some 150 million years ago, when snakes are assumed to have evolved from a lizard and changed their living habitat.

Some modern species still carry primitive distinctive marks, this is the case with pythons and boas that still have vestiges of hind limbs, which only point to a past when snakes resembled lizards a lot more. Snakes or serpents are present in all cultures, carrying symbolic meanings and being widely illustrated in the arts. Mankind hunted down or worshiped snakes throughout its history; yet, modern attitudes have changed towards snakes particularly under the emphasis of the ecological movements that stress out the importance of these creatures for the environment of the planet. And they couldn’t be more right.

Fascinating details in the lives of snakes indicate that there are more things to learn about the many existing species. Thus, a study of the colored patterns on the body of snakes indicates incredible differentiation details between individuals belonging to the same family. Then, snakes’ response to vibrations, the superior sense of smell and even the perception of low frequency sounds make them pretty out of the ordinary. The same amount of scientific respect is due in terms of anatomical programing by the presence of the infrared sensitive receptors that allow pit vipers for instance to detect the warmth of the prey’s body.

Snakes share their habitat with us, and people from areas with a higher density of snake species and sub-species should learn to distinguish between the hazardous or harmless specimens, and thus they reduce the risk of snakebites. Non-venomous snakes could also bite and injure one seriously when threatened, therefore, a healthy attitude towards such animals will save you a lot of trouble. Do not attempt to kill, catch or hunt snakes: they will never come after you for the sake of just biting. Be extremely cautious when keeping snakes as pets.

Ever heard of leopard gecko patterns like the Ruby-Eyed Tremper Albino morph? What about the Patternless Mack Super Snow? Or the Tangerine Super Hypo Carrot-Tail? You might not have heard of any of these, but they’re out there and available for you to purchase. Even as you read this, professional leopard gecko breeders are hard at work producing ever more amazing morphs (that is, visually distinct leopard geckos) for people to fall in love with and buy.

But where did this all begin? How is it done? And was there a time when this little leo actually looked kind of like a leopard making it the only option for the wannabe reptile owner? Read on to find out more…

Housing

A good rule of thumb for Red Eye Tree Frogs is 5 gallons per frog. A ten gallon tank is perfect for a pair of frogs. Flip it on its end to make the tank taller, Red Eye Tree Frogs are arboreal and like to climb. The cage top should be half glass, half screen to keep humidity up.

While they can survive at temperatures ranging from 60-90f degrees, they do best at a daytime temperature of 75-80f degrees, and a nighttime temp of 70-75f degrees. So in most places, room temperature is fine. Avoid keeping them at the extremes of their temperature range, as this can be unhealthy. Usually a low wattage heat light, or ceramic heater is all that is need to heat a tank. During hot months, make sure there is a fan to move air around to cool them off, and that they are not in direct sunlight..

The next major finding was the albino morph, which wasn’t discovered until the mid-to-late 90s. The Tremper Albino was first, followed later by the Rainwater and then the Bell Albino.

Once the genetics of the leo started to become well-known in the late 90s, the gloves really came off, and today there are at least 80 distinct morphs, with more being bred all the time.

Techniques

These morphs are brought about by selective breeding in captivity. This is a time-consuming process, as the traits that the breeders want to bring out are frequently the results of random genetic mutations and are recessive, meaning that they will be expressed in only 25% of the offspring of two parents who both carry a single copy of the trait. Breeders play the numbers game by breeding hundreds of leos at once.

Today

With all the leopard gecko patterns currently available, what’s left to do – are there still any ‘holy grail’ morphs that no one has been able to breed yet? The answer (at the time of writing in 2010) is yes, absolutely. Chief among the morphs that everyone wants to develop are an all-black morph and a true all-blue morph. There’s probably no doubt that these morphs will be achieved soon…so start saving your pennies!

The alligators are the lots of dangerous of the exotic pets. It’s a crocodilian, which comes from the family of Alligatoridae. The name was derived from Anglicization of a Spanish word, which was applied through Spanish explorers who were settled in Florida, United States. Alligators are found mostly in America and China.

There are two species of the alligators, The Alligator Mississippienis or the American The Alligator and The Alligator Sinensis or the Chinese The Alligator. The American alligator weights around eight hundred pounds and is thirteen feet long. The profile for the longest alligator is of nineteen feet two inches, from Louisiana. Comparatively, the Chinese alligators are minor in length and measure not extra than seven feet in length. Alligators live for extra than fifty years. The oldest living alligator was of seventy years, at the Belgrade Zoo, Serbia.

There are several features of alligators that distinguish them from crocodiles and both of them belong to diverse taxonomic families. Alligators have a broader snout and their eyes are located near the upper side. While light is flashed over the eyes, larger alligators have a red glow & smaller alligators have a green glow. This could be of support, when searching for the alligators in dark. While appearance in daylight, it is also observed that alligators have brown eyes & crocodiles have green eyes.

When alligators close their jaws, only the upper teeth are visible where whether in crocodiles, the upper whether well as the lower teeth are visible while they close their jaws. The shape of an the Alligator’s mouth is love a “U” & that of the crocodile is love a “V”. Though both the animals have a darker hide, almost black, the color depends on their habitats. The Chinese the alligators have a light pattern, alligators living in algae growing water are greenish black & waters by high tannic acid released from hanging trees have a darker hide.

The alligators could eat everything they could search because of the gastroliths (belly stones) current in their stomach. Young the alligators feed on crustaceans, fishes, snails, and insects. As they grow so does their require for better prey. Larger the alligators feed on turtles, bigger fishes, birds, &, other reptiles and mammals. They even eat deer, razorbacks, small alligators & carcass of animals when they’re enormously starving. Few attacks on humans have also been reported, but the number is on the increase. People reach overconfident about this fact and enter the Alligator habitats with no much treatment, resulting in provoking their aggression. But alligators do not immediately attack humans, love crocodiles.

The alligator farming industry is seeing a speedy increase in Florida, Louisiana and Texas. The use of such farms is to reach alligator hides & nearly forty five thousand hides are distributed annually from these farms. The hides are very expensive & a seven-foot hide costs whether lots of whether $300, but the prices vary every year. The meat of alligator also has excellent demand, which is approximately three hundred thousand pounds every year.

The alligators at this moment have become really protected and regulated pets. Unique processing is to be undergone to achieve the custody of an the Alligator. Normally baby alligators could be purchased from Florida. Owners are given a unique license and should be aware of their responsibilities. It’s against the law of many states to reduce an alligator from its natural habitat. Alligator pets must be provided with large & wet habitat, matching to the subtropical, to live in.

Alligators are bound to get aggressive and risky at times, which could prove fatal to persons around. Owners should be organized whether their pet could grow more than twelve feet. Some owners panic while they begin obtaining larger & longer and determine to free it from the captivity. But this can be enormously dangerous to residents of that locality because through then the animal would loose its natural fear and would attack humans. When resolution is taken for adopting an the Alligator as a pet, the owner must be firm enough to generate a lifetime commitment.

Crocodiles belong to the Crocodylidae family. Crocodiles will be traced back to the Cretaceous amount and therefore the Triassic period. This family conjointly includes alligators and caimans. Crocodiles are huge aquatic reptiles and live in contemporary water bodies such as rivers, wetlands, lakes and brackish water. They’re found in America, Africa, Australia and Asia. Crocodiles are often confused with alligators. Crocodiles have a V shaped head and alligators have a U formed head.

Crocodiles are counseled for those who have a past experience with dangerous exotic pets. They’re certainly not advisable for beginners and even intermediate pet owners. Individuals that are interested in reptiles will choose agamid, geckos, skinks, and small snakes. Crocodiles are for extremely experienced hobbyists. They are extremely difficult to handle, housed and also the expenses simply stick with it increasing. Even tiny juvenile crocodilians become hard to handle after one year. As they get older, they become a lot of dangerous and stronger. It is solely after this, the owners understand the cruel truth and that they unleash the crocodile illegally within the wild. The matter becomes even worse, because since the pet gets habituated of human company, it will loose worry and can become more confident and attack individuals a lot of simply and frequently.

These reptiles are often underestimated, however they’re very robust and fast. Heaps of observe should be done before handling a crocodile. After all, the larger the crocodile, the more the number of individuals required for handling it. If untrained or inexperienced team handles a crocodile, they’re at risk of obtaining serious injuries and might even die on the spot. No amount of training will tame the crocodile. Most of the homeowners are in delusion during this regard. A ton of laborious work and many years of your time would have be invested to tame a crocodile.

Crocodiles have a streamline body, that facilitates swimming. While swimming, they tuck their limbs to the aspect of their bodies, which help them to swim even faster as that decreases the water resistance. Their webbed feet facilitate them to form fast and sudden turns. Muscles that are involved in closing the jaw are therefore powerful {that the} jaw can shut with a pressure of 3 thousand pounds per square inch. Their teeth are terribly sharp that they use to tear flesh of their prey. They conjointly have very sharp claws.

However the good issue is {that the} muscles that are used to open the jaws are extraordinarily weak. Incase of an attack, the victims should hold the jaw and shouldn’t permit the crocodile to open its jaw. That’s the explanation why, when the crocodile is being transported, the jaws are kept shut with big rubber bands created out of automobile inner tubes. The lateral movement of the neck is restricted by nature during this reptile, therefore when a personality’s faces an attack on land, he can save himself by obtaining behind a little tree with the crocodile at the opposite side.

Crocodiles eat each vertebrates and invertebrates. For instance, they eat mammals, reptiles, fishes, crustacean and mollusks. They can live up to minimum of thirty years and can even cross hundred years of age. House owners should be definitely aware of this truth and create preparations ahead as a result of there’s larger possibility {that the} pet outlives the owner. Crocodiles can grow from 5 feet to six feet and can weigh nearly 3 thousand pounds. At birth they measure twenty centimeters only. This can be conjointly one among the factors, which tempts owners to keep them as pet and after they begin to grow, the owner panics and starts thinking of abandoning them.
